Suncoast Powerhouse Dyno-Tuning with Shaylene Carlsson
For husband and wife team Shaylene and Steve Carlsson, Truck Assist’s 24/7 Roadside Assistance gives them the peace of mind to keep their Suncoast Powerhouse Dyno-Tuning business on the road.
Presenting a unique service to motorcyclists, the operation has been offering a fully mobile dyno tuning facility since the start of 2020, a process that is typically carried out in a bricks and mortar workshop.
By tuning and remapping a motorcycles’ ECU, Suncoast Powerhouse Dyno-Tuning can provide bikes with enhanced performance, economics or rideability, depending on the requirements of any given task.
For instance, classic Harley Davidson owners look for more toque, while racing bikes will seek higher power, and ultimately more speed.
“My husband and I used to have our own race team with a child who is no longer racing, he used to go and tune right around the country, but now we have based it more in the truck here,” said Shaylene.
“We mostly do it in the local area at the moment, we’re located roughly in Caboolture (Queensland), but we can travel to allocated businesses that have the potential to run the truck with certain power supplies.
“The idea is that in time potentially we can travel to the Sunshine Coast, and service those up on the Coast, he does heaps of Harleys, Harleys are a really big thing, and he can obviously do day-to-day rides as well.
“People get their bikes tuned so that they can improve their economics, it makes a significant difference to the quality of ride as well.
“There are different grades of dyno, this is one of the high-end dynos, it’s a Dynojet.
“He uses different brands of software, he might use a Woolich, Rapid Bike, or a Power Commander, it really just depends on what the customer’s needs or requirements are.
“He tunes it in the back of the truck, it’s kitted out with a big TV screen so they can actually see the map in real time, and he prints that for them after the procedure is finished.”
Signing on for Truck Assist’s Roadside Assistance offering was as simple as jumping online when they acquired their Isuzu FPR Series rigid.
“When we bought the truck initially we drove it down from Townsville, I guess we had never really driven that far in a truck before, I did my research and found Truck Assist on the internet, and it seemed to me to be the superior choice,” said Shaylene.
“To me, you can’t afford to be without it, it’s a big risk if you don’t have it, if you break down on the side of the road with a car, you can get some sort of help, but not with a truck, you really need specialist assistance.
“I haven’t had to use it yet, but that’s the plan, right?!”
